The Chairman of the NPP UK branch, Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, popularly known as Wofa K, has strongly criticised what he has described as raids in the homes of former appointees of the previous administration.
He claims the move, which is unlawful and an abuse of power, is being used by the President John Mahama-led administration to divert attention from his failure in dealing with illegal mining, which is also known as galamsey.
Speaking on ‘As it is in Ghana’ on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM, he posited that the galamsey activities have worsened since the president took over and they have not been able to deal with it.
He told host Sir Richie that in order to divert attention from its failure in handling the crisis, the government is raiding the homes of former appointees to paint a false narrative that they had done something wrong.
“Galamsey has reached an unprecedented level. I admit the NPP failed in fighting galamsey, but the most important thing to recognise is that the voters kicked us out and brought in President Mahama. He has to stop complaining and focus on how he will deal with the galamsey menace.”
He said thugs have invaded our forest reserves, with our security agencies unable to deal with the crisis.
He also noted that dumsor has returned, with Ghanaian businesses struggling.
Ghanaians voted Mahama out in 2016 because of dumsor. The NPP came into office and maintained our lights for eight years. But President Mahama is back, and dumsor has returned. We have to be bold and tell him to fix the problems. He has been unable to fix it, and so he has introduced a Rambo-style approach in raiding the homes of former appointees and members of the NPP. The galamsey is bad news for them, and so they have introduced the Rambo style so the media will focus on that because it is good news to follow,” he added.
He concluded by calling on President Mahama to declare a state of emergency in the galamsey-prone areas.
He also wants the president to approve a shoot-to-kill policy to ensure that anyone found destroying our water bodies and forest reserves through illegal mining would be shot and killed.
