The NDC has a terrible history with the judiciary, including killing three judges – NPP MP.

MPO

John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame, claims that the judiciary’s independence is being threatened.

He stated that the decision by the minority is worried that the attempt to remove the Chief Justice is politically motivated, with the term arm of government being treated like a minion.

Speaking in an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he posited that the independence of the judiciary is under attack and it is in their interest to have it protected.

He indicated that the NDC has a bad history with the judiciary, as three superior court justices were assassinated in cold blood while serving under them.

“Our interest is to protect the judiciary. The judiciary had been through terrible times in its history, and three judges were murdered by the PNDC and NDC. So, when it comes to the NDC and their relationship with the judiciary, it’s nothing to brag about.”

He informed host Kwabena Agyapong that “our opposition to the removal of the CJ is not to serve an individual’s interest. We want to protect the third branch of government and keep it from being manipulated politically”.

He urged Ghanaians to protect the judiciary because it is the only branch of government that must be free of partisan politics, given how heavily politicised the first two branches are.

The lawmaker noted that the judiciary has discharged its duties fairly and independently for several years, citing the 2012 presidential petition in favour of President Mahama and the 2020 petition in favour of former President Akufo-Addo.
