Veteran Ghanaian coach Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed, popularly known as Mohammed Polo, has averred that the dismissal of Prof. Nartey Ogun is a step in the right direction because of his poor performance in recent times.
He said Kumasi Asante Kotoko may have evaluated the performance of the coach and concluded that he has failed to deliver.
Mohammed Polo told Rainbow Sports that the Porcupine Warriors and their rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak, have not performed so well in the ongoing Premier League.
”Kotoko conducted an assessment of the coach and discovered that he has underperformed, so keeping him as head coach will not benefit them. That is why they have made the drastic decision to fire him. The team has been losing continuously. I believe they were patient with him, even when he lost matches. I believe it is the correct decision because he was not delivering. He should have resigned when he realised he wasn’t performing well so that his record would be intact. His dismissal shows that he was unable to deliver for the team.”
He went on to say that coaches in Europe resign when they are unable to perform or meet the agreements they have with their teams, but coaches in Ghana do not resign.
“Coaching is all about achieving results.” If you are unable to do so for any reason, you must resign with honour. Coaches resign all the time in Europe, but not in Ghana, even when they perform poorly. The best way for a coach is to perform and then move to a different team in two years, rather than staying even if you underperform. You do not wait for your dismissal.”
