The Tamale Teaching Hospital Doctors Association has suspended all emergency and outpatient services, as well as the antenatal, specialist, and paediatric clinics.
According to the doctors, inpatient care for clients who are currently admitted will continue until they are discharged from the hospital.
They have made some demands which, according to them, must be met before they resume these services.
The Association is demanding unqualified apologies from the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and the Member of Parliament for the Tamale North constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini, to Dr Valentine Akwulpwa, all doctors of the hospital and staff of the accident and emergency departments.
The statement issued by the Association stated categorically that the workers will resume work after they have received appropriate apologies.
They have also asked the facility’s management to ensure the constant flow of water, stable electricity supply in the hospital, constant supply of oxygen, and provision of consumable items such as gauze, cotton, face masks, cannulae, sutures, syringes, disinfectants, glucometer strips, and plasters, among others.
The doctors are also requesting 14 ventilators that would be distributed at the various units in the hospital, two incubators, two transport incubators, two transport ventilators, an MRI scan machine, a CT scan, a mammography machine, among other logistics.
