President John Dramani Mahama has donated six months of his salary to the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, which is popularly referred to as ‘Mahama Care’.
He made the donation at the official launch of the initiative which is aimed at providing support to persons with chronic non-communicable diseases.
Before delivering his official speech for the launch, the president appealed to corporate Ghana to support the initiative since it was a good cause.
According to him, he has not received any salary yet since the Accountant General’s Department was still working on
He was, however, quick to add that right after the modalities are done, he is willing to donate six months of his salary to the fund.
‘’I have pledged six months of my salary to Mahama Cares. I am not yet being paid. They say the Accountant General is still doing something, but whenever the Accountant General finishes, six months of whatever I am entitled to will go into Mahama cares.’’
Mahama Cares would address this gap by offering financial assistance to people battling chronic illnesses.
It aims to provide support for individuals suffering from cancer, kidney failure, heart-related conditions and other conditions.
The MahamaCares initiative, spearheaded by President John Dramani Mahama, aligns with Ghana’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda and is inspired by Ghana’s National Health Policy and the 2018 WHO Astana Declaration.
