A Ghanaian prison officer, Lance Corporal (L/CPL) Gabriel Owusu, stationed at the Ghana Prisons Headquarters, won three (3) silver medals at the just-ended African Weightlifting Championship in Mauritius.

The security officer won the medals in the senior division of the tournament, making the Prison Service, the Ghana Weightlifting Federation and, most importantly, Ghana proud.

The Ghana Prisons Service has taken to its official Facebook page to commend the officer for his remarkable achievement.

The post on Facebook read, ’Lance Corporal (L/CPL) Gabriel Owusu, a prison officer stationed at the Ghana Prisons Headquarters, has made Ghana and the Ghana Weightlifting Federation proud after winning three (3) silver medals at the just-ended African Weightlifting (Senior Division) Championship in Mauritius.

L/Cpl. Owusu, who is also the captain of the Ghana weightlifting team, has earned some remarkable points, which have placed him high in the international rankings.

His performance for team Ghana at the 2024 All African Games held in Ghana was a sign of greater heights to come as he placed 4th in the Senior Men’s Division.’’
