The Chief Executive Officer of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI), Dr Sania Nishtar, is currently in Ghana for a working visit.
According to the Ministry of Health, she arrived on Saturday, May 3, 2025, for a working visit which is expected to end on May 7, 2025.
She was welcomed by officials from the ministry upon her arrival.
The ministry indicated that her visit marks the start of a significant engagement aimed at reinforcing the strong relationship between Ghana and Gavi.
It noted that the visit presents an opportunity to reaffirm mutual commitments, assess ongoing collaboration, and highlight Ghana’s progress in health systems strengthening and local vaccine manufacturing.
Further engagements and activities are expected over the coming days, the ministry added.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is a public-private partnership that helps vaccinate more than half the world’s children against some of the world’s deadliest debilitating infectious diseases.
Gavin works in collaboration with partners the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank and the Gates Foundation.
It plays a critical role in strengthening primary health care (PHC), bringing us closer to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), ensuring that no one is left behind.
Gavi also works with donors, including sovereign governments, private sector foundations and corporate partners; NGOs, advocacy groups, professional and community associations, faith-based organisations and academia; vaccine manufacturers, including those in emerging markets; research and technical health institutes; and implementing country governments.
