The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has inaugurated a new committee to spearhead the construction of Ghana’s Second National Gas Processing Plant (GPP2).
Minister of the Ministry Mr John Jinapor inaugurated the committee on May 12, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said the move is set to expand the country’s gas infrastructure, meet rising domestic energy demands, and curb natural gas liquid losses, currently estimated at over $150 million annually.

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who was also at the inauguration, has reacted, stating that the project was long overdue.
He said the project, after completion, will help the country save $500 million and create over 1,000 jobs for Ghanaians.
‘’This project is long overdue. Ghana will this year spend over $1 billion on expensive liquid fuels to power our plants — a burden on our economy and on ordinary citizens. With this new gas processing plant, we have the opportunity to save nearly $500 million and create over 1,000 jobs for our people.’’
He reminded the committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister for Energy, that the time for bureaucracy is over.

The minister stated that ’the nation is counting on them to deliver, and I’ve given them four weeks to finalise their implementation plan.
Atuabo Gas has been a lifeline for Ghana. GPP II will be a game-changer for our energy security, economic stability, and national welfare.
We are committed to getting it done!’’
The late H.E. John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama conceived, built, and operated the Ghana Gas Processing Plant (GPP1).
Although there was a plan for the second phase, the previous administration failed to construct it.
