President Mahama appoints the youngest NDC 2024 parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa South as MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa South Municipality has expressed sincere appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his nomination to the position.

The MCE attributes his appointment to the President’s confidence in his ability to effectively represent him in the municipality.

Consequently, he has pledged to uphold the President’s trust by dedicating himself to his core responsibilities and ensuring the realization of the reset agenda promised by President Mahama.

Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins has committed to prioritizing key initiatives aimed at transforming the municipality, including policies on education, sanitation, road infrastructure, health, and social intervention initiatives that align with President John Dramani Mahama’s policies.

He welcomed the announcent by the President, to decentralise the national sanitation budget, empowering districts to assume full responsibility for managing their sanitation needs.

During a durbar at the Old Ghanata Astroturf in Dodowa, Greater Accra, on Friday, May 16, as part of his ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’, President Mahama emphasised that cleanliness will become a key performance indicator for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives.

In response, the MCE pledged to enhance the municipality’s performance in this area, ensuring it becomes one of the best-performing municipalities, given the new performance metric.

He extended gratitude to Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin for his support in combating illegal mining, known as galamsey.

Nana Adu Sarpong Addo-Aikins promised to collaborate with traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and residents to combat illegal mining, which poses a threat to the environment and human existence.

He stated, ‘Illegal mining is a threat to our environment, human life, the economy, and social life. I will therefore work with the respected traditional leader, opinion leaders, and residents in fighting galamsey. The President Mahama government remains committed to the fight, and as his representative in this municipality, I will work closely with the traditional ruler and all other relevant stakeholders in dealing with the situation.’

He assured residents of his commitment to serving them and addressing their concerns, highlighting his readiness to push for development in the area.

Furthermore, he pledged to ensure 24-hour security, making the municipality safer and more inclusive.

According to him, regular interactions will be held with market leaders, transport unions, representatives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, traditional authorities, civil society actors, and assembly members to discuss challenges and explore opportunities for sustainable growth.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the chiefs from various traditional areas, party leadership, National Democratic Congress supporters, opinion leaders, and residents who had supported him, and prayed for him, emphasising, ‘I assure you that your support and prayers will not be in vain. Your unwavering backing since my nomination has been invaluable, and I pledge that with your continued support and prayers, I will deliver results that meet your expectations.’
