The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has warned the public not to patronise two alcoholic beverages—Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur and Jupiter 1990—after laboratory tests confirmed the presence of marijuana extracts in both products.
A statement issued by the Authority on Sunday, May 19, 2025, said that the alcoholic beverages are not registered and are deemed unsafe for public consumption.
The FDA disclosed that the products were manufactured by FAMUDE Catering Services, an unlicensed operation based in the Ashanti Region.
The FDA so shut down the facility and revoked the licence of the company.
It has also referred the matter to the Suntresu District Police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the FDA has promised to work in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) and the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to monitor and contain the situation.
