The Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has formally announced the cessation of its nationwide strike.
Following the government’s response to its longstanding demands regarding the implementation of a negotiated agreement, the Association has called off its strike action.
SSA-UoG, along with the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) decalred a strike action on Wednesday due to the government’s alleged failure to implement agreements concerning their conditions of service.
But in a statement issued on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the union instructed its members to resume work on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Tbe statement disclosed that the Ministry of Finance has released the awaited letter authorising the implementation of the agreement, effective November 2024.
Additionally, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a directive authorizing universities to commence payments immediately.
“On behalf of our sister unions TUAAG and FUSSAG and on my behalf as the National Chairman of SSA-UoG, we are pleased to inform you that following our collective action and strong advocacy, the Government has responded positively to our demands,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the union has commended the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu and the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, for their commitment and efforts in resolving the matter.
