The Greater Accra Regional Minister Madam Linda Ocloo has revealed that the old onion market has been classified as unfit for human habitation.
She stated that the area is also a reserved site which has been earmarked for the construction of factories.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, she noted that the soil in the area has been tested, and the results proved that humans cannot reside there.
She said those who are currently occupying the area are at risk.
“The soil from the site has been tested at the lab, and the results showed that the area is toxic for human habitation. We have already stated that the place is a reserved site. Plans were underway to restore the place and use the land for factories to benefit the entire country.
“Those who reside there ought to move from the place. We have engaged the people and asked them what it will take for them to move out from the site. The government has taken note of their concerns and is working on addressing them,” she noted.
Madam Ocloo, the government will not be reckless in handling the issues but will consult before taking any action.
She further disclosed that after those residing there move out, the site would be under lock and key to prevent people from going there again.
