Ghana Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo has stressed the importance of winning the upcoming match against the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria, citing the historic rivalry between the two nations.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Four-Nation Tournament fixture scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:00 PM at Brentford Stadium in England, Addo said the team is doing everything possible to secure a win.
Ghana, Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago have all been invited to participate in the Annual Unity Cup.
“Everyone wants to win this game,” Addo said. “We’re doing our best, and we’re calling on all Ghanaian communities in England to come and support us. It will be a tough match, and we have to prepare very well.”
When asked whether Brekum Chelsea striker Stephen Amankona had been invited to camp, the coach declined to comment on individual omissions. “There are about 500 players who have not been called. I can’t talk about just one,” he said.
Addo emphasised that the tournament is a key opportunity for players who haven’t had much time on the pitch. “Selection will be based on performance in training,” he stated. “In life, sometimes you have one opportunity—and you have to use it well.”
Reflecting on his own journey, Addo recounted how he began with limited minutes at Borussia Dortmund but earned more playtime through hard work and adaptation. “In football, you have to be fast, and you have to adapt,” he added.
