Ghana’s inflation rate for the month of May 2025 has fallen to 18.4% year on year.

The reduction was from the 21.2% recorded in April and marks the lowest rate since February 2022.

According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), the reduction is due to the reductions in transport fares and a marked slowdown in non-food inflation, signalling a sustained easing in the pace at which consumer prices are rising.

Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu speaking to journalists indicated that the drop in fuel prices which contributed to the reduction in transport fares contributed to the reduction in the inflation rate.

He explained that, while food inflation remained high, it continued to fall, while services and transportation-related costs fell the most dramatically, easing household budgets.

On a regional level, the Upper West Region had the highest inflation rate at 38.1%.

The figure was primarily driven by rising food prices and transport costs in the northern belt.

The Ahafo Region had the lowest inflation rate at 14.5%, indicating more stable price dynamics in that zone.
