Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi, has launched a groundbreaking prison football project at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison in partnership with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana. The initiative seeks to harness the power of sports to rehabilitate and rebuild the lives of inmates.
Nyantakyi, who interacted with the inmates, discovered that many of them had been led astray by various factors, including peer influence and lack of support. He emphasised that anyone, regardless of their status, can find themselves in such circumstances and that these individuals deserve a second chance.
The former football administrator was impressed by the talent he saw among the inmates and believes that football and other sporting activities can be a catalyst for positive change in their lives. He launched the project with the support of several notable former professional footballers, including Samuel Oseifo, Yussif Chibsah, Kobi Bismark, and Kobi Mensa.
Nyantakyi noted that the presence of these football stars had a profound impact on the inmates, boosting their morale and providing a welcome distraction from their worries. He hopes that this initiative will continue to inspire and empower the inmates, helping them to rebuild their lives and unlock their potential. By providing opportunities for rehabilitation and personal growth, Nyantakyi’s project aims to make a lasting difference in the lives of those behind bars.
