The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has instructed members working in the various public health facilities to withdraw all services effective today, June 9, 2025.
GRNMA is protesting what it describes as a year-long delay by the Ministry of Health in implementing its reviewed Collective Agreement signed in May 2024.
The strike began on June 4, 2025, with the withdrawal of Outpatient Department (OPD) services from June 4 to June 8, 2025.
It warned that if the government fails to address their demands, the GRNMA will withdraw all nursing and midwifery services starting June 9, 2025.
The Association has further directed all nurses and midwives teaching at any of the nursing training schools to withdraw their services.
The National Labour Commission last week secured an injunction barring the GRNMA from embarking on a strike, but the members of the Association are adamant and unprepared to call off the strike action.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, issued an appeal to the striking nurses and midwives to return to work, emphasising patient safety and encouraging them to return to the negotiating table to find a long-term solution to the concerns raised.
