Kassim Mingle Ocansey, head coach of Nations FC, has stated that Ghana does not have enough coaches with youth development backgrounds.
He considers himself to be one of the coaches with a youth development background, and he believes that successful coaches in Europe have a youth development background.
He explained that the best way to develop talent is to engage and train them from a young age so that they become solid and talented players.
However, Ghana lacks that system, so you cannot succeed when attempting to use it.
”The most accomplished coaches in Europe typically have a background in youth development, an area in which I possess considerable expertise. Upon conducting a thorough analysis of Ghana’s successful players, it becomes evident that many of them were under my guidance. In fact, the majority of these players progressed from youth to senior levels under my tutelage. By integrating youth development with senior coaching, it is possible to cultivate exceptional talent.
However, Ghana currently lacks the necessary infrastructure to support this approach. We do not have adequate academies where children can enrol from a young age and receive comprehensive training until they are ready for senior teams. At the senior level, the focus shifts from foundational training to tactical conditioning and role-specific preparation. Unfortunately, in Ghana, the absence of supportive structures hinders this process, forcing coaches to combine youth development with tactical training, which is how I have managed to achieve success in the country.”
