The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its decision to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

This was confirmed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah.

He made the disclosure after the National Council adopted a proposal from the constitution review committee on Tuesday, June 18, 2025.

He was, however, quick to add that the timing of the presidential primaries will not be subject to approval by the delegates’ conference.

According to him, the National Council has already exercised its mandate to approve it.

“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries. Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place,” he said.

The party has also set up a nine-member committee chaired by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu to plan the July 2025 national delegates conference to adopt other recommendations for the amendment of the party’s constitution.
