NPP suffocating over economic gains, fabricating fake scandals to discredit NDC govt – Barbara Asamoah

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Barbara Serwaa Asamoah, has opined that there is an orchestrated attempt by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to discredit the government by manufacturing and fishing for non-existent scandals against state officials.

According to her, the opposition, along with its assigns, members, and affiliates, is suffocating over the healthy performance of the economy and the gains made so far, leading them to create unnecessary distractions.

She expressed shock over why the NPP is bent on discrediting the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, through unsubstantiated allegations, accusations, and frivolous demands.

Commenting on the South Africa evacuation exercise and matters arising, she noted that the NPP has tried everything possible to undermine the Minister but has failed.

Appearing on the Weekend Morning Show on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawyer asserted that the evacuation exercise gained Ghana international commendation for standing up for its citizens.

Madam Serwaa Asamoah stated that the NPP is behaving like an over-pampered child that relies on crying to blackmail its parents, adding that if there were genuine concerns, the party had better avenues to raise them rather than attempting to discredit public officers.

She further described the opposition as nation-wreckers whose sole aim is to accuse people and fabricate lies without producing any evidence.

Speaking to host Eddie Ray, she explained that the opposition initially pushed false narratives that the government refused to evacuate Ghanaians who were willing to return home. However, after those claims were exposed, they shifted to allegations that the evacuees were shortchanged, again without providing concrete proof.

“So far as I am concerned, the evacuees were very happy. They commended the government for evacuating them, giving them re-integration allowances, and other benefits. Then all of a sudden, we have some people alleging that they did not receive the full amount. Who are these people? We have all kinds of people making allegations without any evidence just to discredit the Minister. Wo gye wo sika, eye sika ben?

“You cannot fathom the logic behind what the NPP is doing. None of these things make sense. Nobody is running away from accountability. Okudzeto Ablakwa has been transparent with the evacuation exercise. In his quest to be transparent and accountable to the people, we have all manner of allegations against him just to discredit him,” she stated.

Madam Barbara Serwaa Asamoah noted that Ghanaians witnessed unprecedented levels of scandals under the former administration, with the very first occurring on January 7, 2017, during the swearing-in of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after he delivered a plagiarised speech.

She alleged that such scandals continued on a weekly basis until the end of the Akufo-Addo tenure.

She added that since the NDC administration took over 20 months ago, not a single scandal has been recorded, leaving the NPP disappointed and desperate.
