The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has admonished the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to release the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results on time to reduce anxiety among students and the general public.
He commended WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their efforts in successfully conducting the examinations but was quick to stress the need for WAEC to release the results promptly.
The Minister made this call at the 2025 West African Examinations Council Distinction Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 26.
“Let me commend you for a very successful BECE examination. What we expect from you now is the early, timely release of the results so that anxiety and anxiousness in the students will go down,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minsiter has disclosed that the government will introduce a new legislative framework to guide the awarding of scholarships in the country.
He called on the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to support the bill when it is presented before the House.
“Within the few weeks to come, I will introduce the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he promised Ghanaians to deal with the issue of nepotism that was associated with the award of scholarships,” he stated.
