The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has expressed its displeasure over the last-minute cancellation of its scheduled June 26 meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health.
The Association noted that it received a letter from the committee barely a day before the meeting, informing them that the meeting had been postponed to July 10, 2025.
Acting Public Relations Officer Philimon Gyapong stated that the committee’s action constitutes a breach of the agreed roadmap to resolve outstanding issues.
He stated that the Association expects full implementation of the agreed-upon items by July 2025, and warned that failure to do so could result in serious consequences.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said members of the GRNMA are angry and do not want to be taken for granted.
He explained that during the previous meeting with the Committee, it was agreed that four of the items contained in the Conditions of Service would be implemented this year — a consensus both parties reached.
“Our members are outraged at the meeting’s last-minute cancellation. The rescheduling, in our opinion, is bad faith because it could further delay the implementation of the agreed-upon items. However, we have decided to give the committee the benefit of the doubt and believe that their interactions with the Ministries of Health and Finance will be fruitful.”
“The agreement stipulated that four of the eight agreed-upon items would be implemented by July 2025. This is not negotiable, and we will be forced to take additional action if any attempt is made to delay implementation,” he added.
