The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, represented by the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, has inaugurated the Parliamentary Friendship Association.
The Association forms part of efforts to deepen ties among parliamentarians and foster international collaboration.
Mr. Ahiafor explained that the Parliamentary Friendship Association serves as a platform to connect with peers across borders and exchange ideas on global issues, such as climate change.
He noted that the responsibilities of Members of Parliament must extend beyond their constituencies to include international engagement.
He also urged both current and former MPs to view membership in the Parliamentary Friendship Association as a call to action and a strategic opportunity to strengthen Ghana’s relationships with international partners.
The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, also highlighted the crucial role of parliamentarians in promoting parliamentary democracy and global cooperation.
He stressed that in today’s interconnected world, the role of MPs goes beyond legislative duties to include international diplomacy and collaboration.
The Parliamentary Friendship Association, he said, offers a vital platform for sharing ideas, working together on global challenges, and promoting people-to-people interactions between Ghana’s legislature and international partners.
By fostering these interpersonal connections, the Association aims to enhance international cooperation and build bridges between nations.
He emphasized the value of such relationships, which go beyond formal state and diplomatic channels, in promoting mutual understanding and collaboration.
