The Member of Parliament for Essikado Ketan Constituency, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has commended the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, for his statement on the recent COVID-19 outbreak at the University of Ghana.
Dr Ayensu expressed reassurance about the situation, citing the minister’s report of 316 suspected cases with 107 confirmed cases, no hospitalisations, and no deaths.
Dr Ayensu highlighted the minister’s efforts to combat the outbreak, including surveillance, contact tracing, and follow-up on students.
She noted that the virus typically affects people with underlying health conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes, and believes that students are at low risk as long as proper measures are in place.
The MP emphasised the importance of public education to reassure the country and proposed emphasising social distancing, proper hand washing, and face mask use, especially for those with respiratory diseases.
Dr Ayensu concluded by commending the minister for his rapid response to the outbreak and dubbed him the “Rapid Response Minister”.
