President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in seven new Supreme Court judges at the Jubilee House after going through successful vetting.
The swearing ceremony was held on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The appointments are expected to strengthen the judiciary’s ability to handle its increasing caseload.
Their appointments are in line with Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for judicial appointments, including advice from the Judicial Council and consultation with the Council of State before parliamentary approval.
The 1992 Constitution mandates that the Supreme Court shall consist of the Chief Justice and not less than nine other justices.
President Mahama admonished the judges to uphold democratic governance and the rule of law.
He encouraged them to remain steadfast in integrity, fairness, and impartiality and reminded them of the solemn oath they had taken to serve the people of Ghana with distinction.
The seven newly confirmed justices include:
- Justice Senyo Dzamefe
2. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei
- Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh
4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo
5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah
6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo
7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba
