BudgIT Ghana, a civic organisation, has launched its Simplified 2025 Budget Statement alongside a stakeholder capacity workshop.

The programme seeks to equip civic and media partners with the practical skills needed to interpret complex fiscal documents, effectively track public expenditure, and communicate these insights to the public.

The Simplified 2025 Budget Statement transforms intricate government financial documents into accessible, easy-to-understand formats for citizens.

This effort makes budget data more actionable, especially for grassroots advocates and community leaders involved in public resource allocation and service delivery.

Oluseun Onigbinde, Global Director and Co-Founder of the BudgIT Foundation, emphasised the importance of this training in promoting fiscal transparency and inclusive governance.

He stated that the workshop’s objective was to make budget information more readily available and understandable.

The participants shared their learnings and experiences across the West African subregion about how best to do budget advocacy, especially with a key focus on coalition building, stakeholder management, researching, and budget visualisation.

Jennifer Moffat, BudgIT Ghana’s Country Lead, added that the workshop’s purpose is to educate the public on how to monitor and utilise data collection.

She stated that the organisation is prepared to foster a more participatory fiscal ecosystem, where citizens play a central role in governance and accountability.

According to Moffat, there’s a need to harness data, and the workshop provided a platform for journalists to gain deeper insights into how to utilise complex data for their stories and advocacy.

BudgIT, founded in Nigeria in 2011 by Oluseun Onigbinde and Joseph Agunbiade, uses technology to connect citizen engagement with institutional improvement.

It focuses on making public finance data accessible and understandable to citizens, operating in several African countries, including Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Senegal.
