Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has maintained that his party won the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election, but the Electoral Commission (EC) failed to respect the will of the people.
He stated that the party, for good reason, decided to boycott the rerun in the 19 polling stations because the National Executive Committee had evaluated the situation and concluded it was needless to participate.
The Chief Scribe of the NPP asserted that they won the seat and had all their scanned copies of the pink sheets, which showed they had won the seat by 414 votes.
He declared and described the decision by the Electoral Commission to conduct the rerun as a dangerous precedent for Ghana’s democracy.
“We had all the scanned copies of our pink sheets in the 281 polling stations, which gave us a clear win of 414 votes, and therefore we were surprised that the EC decided to call for a rerun. On principle, we felt that it was a wrong decision and a bad precedent being set by the EC and very dangerous for our future politics and future elections.”
