NPP’s delegates conference was a national rally in disguise for Bawumia – Spokesperson for Ken Agyapong

Armstrong Esaah, spokesperson for Ken Agyapong, has alleged that the party gave former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia an undue advantage at its Delegates Conference held on Saturday, July 18, 2025.

He stated that the way the event was structured gave the party’s 2024 flagbearer an opportunity to campaign at the delegates’ conference.

He said the conference was mainly to deliberate on the proposed amendments and not to grant anyone a platform to campaign.

Armstrong Esaah indicated that all other aspiring candidates should have been granted the same opportunity granted to Bawumia to also interact with the delegates.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said, “That particular individual who campaigned at the grounds was former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. I tell you that most of the comments that have been made show that the national delegates conference was a national rally in disguise for the former vice president.

Look at the way he entered the stage, greeted, and interacted with the people before delivering his speech. Any other person that was called to deliver a speech used the backstage, but look at Bawumia and the advantage he was granted. It was clearly an agenda for Bawumia to campaign, and so we want to call on the national officers to put the interest of the party first.”

He added that this was one of the reasons why the party suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2024 general elections.

He advised against any action that would undermine party unity, discipline, and favouritism.

“Observe how the former Vice President accessed the stage and delivered his address. Every speaker invited to speak to the delegates utilized the backstage, but Dr. Bawumia was permitted to wave at the audience. This gesture was entirely unnecessary, which is why many are suggesting that the conference resembled a national rally for Bawumia. Having witnessed and participated in numerous national conferences, I can confidently assert that this was the first instance where national officers have organised such a program for a single individual. It was effectively a campaign platform organised for Bawumia. As stakeholders in this party, it is imperative that every decision made by national officers is thoroughly considered.”
