The female National Team, Black Queens, were unsuccessful in their bid to qualify for the final match in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The team suffered a defeat at the hands of host nation Morocco in a dramatic penalty shootout in the semi-finals on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Following a hard-fought 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time, the Atlas Lionesses emerged victorious, securing a 4-2 win from the spot and a place in the final against Nigeria.
The team successfully scored the first goal through the efforts of Stella Nyamekye in the 26th minute.
However, Morocco fought back in the second half, equalizing in the 55th minute when Sakina Ouzraoui positioned herself perfectly at the far post to find the back of the net.
Neither side could break the deadlock, resulting in the game being pushed to a penalty shootout.
Ghana will now face defending champions South Africa in the third-place playoff, while Morocco will contend with formidable Nigeria in the WAFCON final on Saturday.
