Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring presidential candidate, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has admitted that although the race for the party’s candidacy will be a difficult one, he will emerge as the winner.
Speaking to journalists at the official declaration of his intention to contest the race on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the civil engineer declared that his support base within the party would secure him victory.
“It’s going to be tough—I’m not making any bones about it,” he admitted.
“One of my competitors has been a vice president, he’s been at the top for 16 years, and he enjoys significant visibility and name recognition. I’ve been out of the picture for 10 years, but the kind of support I’m getting from the party’s grassroots is strong.
“They remember I was one of the young men who helped build this party from scratch. Mind you, I’m the only one among the aspirants who has been elected as General Secretary.”
He spoke about party unity, loyalty, discipline, and reward for dedicated service.
“With me, the NPP has a clear path to unity and victory. I am the surest bet to regain the people’s trust and reclaim power in the next election.”
At the same event, he also promised to bring back Alan Kyerematen, a former member of the party who is the leader and founder of the Movement for Change.
