The Western Region is set to undergo a significant economic transformation following a high-level meeting between Western Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Nelson, and President John Dramani Mahama on July 30, 2025.
The strategic engagement at the Presidency focused on a comprehensive development agenda aimed at industrialising the region, enhancing infrastructure, and empowering local communities.
President John Dramani Mahama announced several key initiatives designed to unlock the Western Region’s full potential, including the establishment of a manganese refinery and a proposed aluminum refinery to leverage the region’s bauxite reserves.
Additionally, a major expansion of the Takoradi Port is planned, positioning it as a vital hub for oil and gas services in West Africa. The Minister outlined a robust development plan centered on industrialization, infrastructure development, and grassroots empowerment.
The delegation comprised key stakeholders, including representatives from the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Members of the Council of State, CEOs of state institutions, board members, ministers, and MMDCEs.
The Regional Minister expressed gratitude to all contributors to the meeting’s success, emphasizing a unified vision for the region’s future.
