Takyi ‘Thunder’ Arhin, the General Manager of Aduana Stars Football Club and a seasoned football administrator, has issued a stern caution to fellow administrators regarding the misuse of the GHC 1 million promised to local clubs for the 2025/26 season.
Reacting to an announcement by Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, Mr. Arhin advised that the funds should be strategically invested in club management to enhance performance.
The GHC 1 million is part of a new broadcast partnership facilitated by the Government of Ghana and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, with Adesa Productions as the rights holders. This landmark deal was officially unveiled on Thursday, August 31, in Accra.
During an interview on Rainbow Sports, Arhin emphasized that administrators must assess their clubs’ financial needs and use the money to address those needs rather than diverting it for personal gain.
He urged clubs to use the funds judiciously, stating that such financial prudence could attract more funding in the future.
“The administrators should not divert the money for their individual financial needs,” he stated. “The team leadership should not see the money as manna from heaven and misuse it. The money should be used to address the financial needs of the clubs. If I invest my money in making my team better and I meet and win my games against you, you should not complain. Don’t give the money to your wives to travel to China or Dubai for a tour. The money is meant for the clubs. If we are able to use the money judiciously, more will follow.”
Takyi Arhin also highlighted that one of the major challenges plaguing the local league is the poor remuneration of players, a situation that has forced many to seek better opportunities abroad.
“The reason why our local players leave Ghana to pursue other opportunities abroad is due to poor remuneration,” he explained. “Tanzania, Ethiopia, and others are paying local players far better than Ghana, even though our local league is far superior to what they have in their countries.”
He concluded by describing this latest development as unprecedented in the history of the Ghanaian local league but stressed that a proper monitoring scheme must be put in place to ensure the clubs do not misuse the money.
