The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a warning stating its decision to prosecute Ghanaians who unlawfully vouch for foreign nationals seeking to acquire Ghana Cards.

The Authority emphasized that it is illegal for any Ghanaian to guarantee the nationality of a foreigner for registration purposes onto the national identification system.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, August 4, 2025, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, revealed that several individuals are currently standing trial for vouching for foreigners.

He further cautioned those who have commercialised the vouching process, often endorsing individuals they do not personally know.

“Out of the 20 people currently being prosecuted, some are Ghanaians who vouched for foreign nationals,” he revealed. “In our system, it is very easy to identify such individuals.”

“To those of you vouching for people you don’t even know—just to make money—be warned: we are coming for you,” he added.
