President John Dramani Mahama has suspended all his scheduled activities and programmes for the rest of the week, a statement issued by the government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed.
According to the statement, the decision to suspend these schedules follows the tragic death of eight individuals in the military helicopter crash which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The statement said there would be three days of National Mourning for the departed souls beginning tomorrow, Thursday, August 7, 2025, and ending on August 10, 2025.
Additionally, the government, through the Chief of State Julius Devrah, has instructed that all flags should fly at half-mast.
Earlier the Chief of Staff confirmed the incident, indicating that “On behalf of the President of the Republic, HE John Dramani Mahama; the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is with us here; and the Government of Ghana, I have the unpleasant duty, sadly, to announce a national tragedy involving the crash of a military helicopter this morning around the Adansi area in the Ashanti Region.
The government regrets to announce the demise of the following persons in the tragic crash:
1. Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
2. Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed (MP) – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture.
4. Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, and
5. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
6. Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala
7. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
8. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The President and Government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and servicemen who died in service to the country.”
