Following widespread public backlash and criticism directed at the government, particularly the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, regarding the tragic accident involving 16 children who lost their lives on the Atwedie stretch of the Kumasi-Accra highway, the Sector Minister has released a statement offering condolences to the bereaved families.
In the statement, Minister Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey expressed that words may be insufficient to heal the wounds inflicted upon the bereaved families by the accident.
She extended her condolences to the President, Ghanaians, and families of the eight individuals who perished in the helicopter crash before addressing the accident involving the children.
This statement comes two weeks after the deceased children were laid to rest. A segment of the Ghanaian public has criticized the government for apparent apathy towards the deceased children and their families.
The Minister stated that “The Ministry also takes a moment to commiserate with the families and community that lost 16 children in a tragic road accident while returning from a church activity. Words may never be enough to heal such pain, but we stand firmly behind the grieving families in prayer, support, and shared sorrow. The Ministry affirms its commitment to walking with the affected families through this dark moment and beyond.
The Ministry extends its heartfelt sympathies to all bereaved families in this tragic accident, with particular concern for the children and mothers left behind. These young ones now face life with a painful absence, one that no child should ever have to endure.”
