Founder of Patriot Ghana, Kwesi Korang, has called for a thorough investigation into the military helicopter crash that resulted in the deaths of eight personalities, including two cabinet ministers.
Kwesi Korang says the incident is a national tragedy that must be probed to determine its cause and prevent similar incidents.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he stated that the issue should not be used for political scoring points.
He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families, praying that God would grant them strength in the midst of this tragedy.
‘This is a terrible situation, and we pray that God will grant the families strength. We should respect the families affected by the crash and avoid being insensitive to them. We should also pray that God grants the departed souls peaceful rest until we all meet again,’ he stated.
Kwesi Korang was disappointed that the charred bodies of the victims were preserved in cocoa sacks, describing it as disgraceful. He was devastated by the news, especially since the individuals were attending an event related to anti-galamsey efforts.
Therefore, he asked President John Dramani Mahama to use this incident as an opportunity to step up efforts in fighting illegal mining.
‘We will appeal to the President to allow for a thorough investigation into the crash. The other point is that we have to use this incident to intensify our efforts in the fight against galamsey, as these individuals were attending an event connected to illegal mining.’
He stressed that “the investigation must be thorough. Did the helicopter develop a fault? Were proper checks done by the technicians and engineers who examined the aircraft before it flew? Did the pilot experience any challenges? Was the weather bad enough to cause the accident, or is it possible that some individuals tampered with the aircraft or sabotaged it? These are critical areas the investigators must focus on. The whole trip was related to mining and illegal mining efforts, so it wouldn’t be surprising if it turns out that some individuals with criminal intent caused the crash.”
