Peace Watch Ghana, an organization that advocates for peace and security, has honored DSP Mr. Shittu Nafiu, the Anti-Land Guard Commander for the Accra region, for his incorruptibility and commitment to the law and human safety.

The organisation stated that DSP Nafiu demonstrates that the Ghana Police Service still has dedicated and selfless officers who will do their duty without influence or manipulation.

Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, revealed that DSP Nafiu and his officers intervened in a near-clash over land ownership in the Accra region.

The dispute involved a developer claiming ownership of a plot in the CMB area, where the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Containers Owners Association, traders, and others operate.

A man named Daasebre is claiming ownership and has tried to forcefully evict the current occupants.

He has repeatedly brought in land guards to intimidate them.

The occupants have since petitioned several authorities, including the Railways Ministry and the Inspector General of Police, about the matter, as they reportedly pay rent to the Railways.

Despite this, the developer allegedly mobilized men to evict the occupants and develop the land.

The situation nearly escalated when the developer allegedly planned to have land guards storm the area on a Saturday to evict the occupants.

In response, the occupants had prepared to confront the land guards, regardless of the consequences.

DSP Nafiu intervened to prevent the standoff.

He made it clear to the developer that no police officers would be deployed to conduct an unlawful eviction or demolish structures in the area.

“Peace Watch Ghana is therefore commending the senior officer for maintaining order,” Madam Daniels said. “He has refused to engage in any form of corrupt activities, manipulation, or unlawful activities. We wish to congratulate him and the regional commander.

They have done extremely well in ensuring sanity and safety. Without his intervention, there would have been bloodshed. As an organization, we acknowledge his efforts and commend him for refusing to be corrupt and for enforcing law and order. The said developer moves around with land guards and intimidates people, but this time, he or she would have no upper hand.”
