Police Ladies’ head coach, Yussif Basigi, has praised his team, describing the players as having a winning mentality.
In an interview on Rainbow Sports, Coach Basigi noted that since getting closer to the team and coaching them, he’s seen firsthand the players’ strong desire to win and their determination to qualify for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.
The team’s first game is on August 24 against Nigerian champions, Bayelsa Queens FC, at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Coach Basigi is optimistic about his team’s performance, noting that the majority of the players have experience in major tournaments, which will be a significant advantage.
“They are very ready. They are ready because the majority of them have played in major or top competitions before, so the upcoming tournament doesn’t signal any fear. For those who have played in the World Cup before, this game won’t scare them.”
When asked to compare the Police Ladies to other female clubs he coached, Basigi highlighted their remarkable mental fortitude.
“The level that the Police Ladies have reached is remarkable. Until I got closer to them, I didn’t realize they had a winning mentality and the mental fortitude a team deserves. They are dedicated, committed, and disciplined. They have the same winning attitude as the Hassacass Ladies,” he stated.
He added that preparations for the upcoming tournament are well underway, and the players are in high spirits.
