The parliamentary candidate for the Action People’s Party (APP) in the Akwatia Constituency, David Ankomah, has headed to the High Court praying the court to stop the September 2, 2025 by-election.
He has filed the suit over the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to disqualify him.
Mr. Ankomah and his party were disqualified from the race over issues relating to a tax clearance certificate.
But the aggrieved candidate claims his disqualification is part of a “grand scheme” to exclude him from the contest.
“Because we believe in the rule of law in Ghana, our lawyers have filed a case at the High Court seeking an injunction, and the matter will be heard on August 28. All we are seeking is justice,” he said.
The EC has scheduled September 2, 2025 as the date for the by-election following the death of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi who died some weeks ago after a short illness.
