The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a temporary bonus of GHS832 per pound of gold for all licensed miners.
The bonus has consequently increased the local price of a pound of gold to GHS9,700.
A statement issued by GoldBod announced that this move forms part of efforts aimed at addressing the recent drop in local gold prices, caused by the continuous appreciation of the Ghana cedi.
The statement, signed by Prince Kwame Minka, Media Relations Officer, GoldBod, said the initiative is a proactive step by GoldBod to motivate licensed miners and curb gold smuggling, a persistent issue affecting the country’s economy.
He added that the bonus will ensure that miners are fairly compensated despite the strengthening cedi.
He emphasised that the board has resourced its licensed traders to guarantee the prompt payment of the bonus to all licensed miners who sell their gold to GoldBod.

URGENT NOTICE!!!!!
GOLDBOD INTRODUCES SPECIAL BONUS FOR LICENSED MINERS.
In a bid to motivate licensed miners and fight gold smuggling, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has today, Wednesday, 27th August, 2025 introduced a special (temporary) bonus of GHS832 per pound of gold, for all licensed Miners across the country.
As a result of this initiative, a pound of gold which should have sold in the local market for GHS8,868, is today selling at a price GHS9,700.
This novelty is in response to legitimate complaints from licensed miners about the significant reduction in the local price of gold in the last few months due to the continuous appreciation of the Ghana cedi.
The special bonus will ensure that licensed miners who have contributed immensely to the country’s increased gold output and foreign exchange earnings, do not indirectly suffer as a result of the significant appreciation of the Ghana cedi, that they have helped the country achieve.
The GoldBod has adequately resourced and directed its licensed traders across the country to ensure the prompt payment of this special bonus to all licensed miners who sell their gold to the GoldBod.
