Some Chief Executives of the MMDAs are sleeping on the job – Madam Ocloo

Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo has expressed disappointment with the performance of some Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), stating they are “sleeping on the job.”

She has warned that she will not hesitate to report underperforming officials to the presidency if they fail to improve.

Speaking in an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Frontline, Minister Ocloo urged the MMDCEs to intensify their efforts in advancing

President Mahama’s agenda for regional development.

This agenda focuses on critical areas such as sanitation, security, and human development.

“The job of an MMDCE is not merely to occupy an office; it is to address the crucial issues facing our communities,” Ocloo said.

She described the level of inefficiency and complacency among some chief executives as “alarming.”

“It is disappointing that individuals appointed to serve in these roles are failing to deliver. I have admonished them to sit up or face the consequences,” she added.

Ocloo emphasised that the role of an MMDCE is about producing results, not enjoying the benefits of the position.

“We expect every chief executive to deliver on the President’s ‘reset agenda’ for a better future for Ghana. Our mandate is four years, but that is not guaranteed. If you are appointed, you must do your best,” she stated.

The minister affirmed the President’s commitment to fulfilling his mandate and stressed that all appointees must support him.

While acknowledging the hard work of some MMDCEs, she reiterated that those who are “sleeping on the job must double up.”

“You have technocrats and professionals at the various assemblies. Collaborate with them and deliver on your mandate,” she advised. “The failure of these assemblies ultimately rests on my shoulders as regional minister, and I will not stand by and allow inefficiency to undermine my work.”
