The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service has commenced a two-day working visit to the Oti Region in response to a reported surge in typhoid fever cases.

It will be recalled that in a press release issued on August 29, 2025, the Service announced the dispatch of a technical team to the region to verify and assess the situation. This current visit serves as a follow-up to that initial intervention.

During the visit, the Director-General held engagements with Medical Superintendents, Laboratory Scientists, District Directors, Health Information Officers, and Disease Control Officers across the region. He also met with the Regional Director, Dr. Amoh-Kodieh, and his senior management team.

The discussions centered on strengthening healthcare delivery systems, enhancing disease surveillance, promoting early detection, and improving sanitation and hygiene practices across communities.

The Director-General emphasized the importance of community engagement and collaboration in reducing typhoid fever cases to
acceptable levels.

As part of his engagements, the Director-General paid a courtesy call on the Queen Mother of the Worawora Traditional Area, Nana Abena Safrowaa, and her elders.

He appealed for their support in mobilising community members to adopt good sanitation practices to help eliminate typhoid and other sanitation-related diseases.

He also visited the Worawora Government Hospital and interacted with management and staff.

In addition, the Director-General is expected to pay courtesy calls on the Honourable Regional Minister and selected traditional leaders in the region to discuss further collaborative efforts in addressing prevailing health challenges.
