The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, widely known as Wofa K, has stated that the experience and track records of the five aspiring presidential candidates are beyond question.
Speaking on the matter, Wofa K noted that aside from the attacks and insults some of the candidates are directing at each other, there is no doubt about their individual experiences.
He stressed, however, that without unity, the party will struggle to make an impact and secure the victory it seeks in the 2028 general elections.
According to him, his primary concern is for the party to remain united and address its challenges so that, regardless of who wins the internal polls, they can secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
“We are talking about people who have the requisite knowledge, experience, and skills in life, who want to be elected as a candidate to represent the party and subsequently elected as president to manage the affairs of the country,” he stated.
He likened the situation to a race where even the best rider with an injured horse will lose, emphasising that no matter how skillful the rider is, victory will be elusive.
Wofa K noted that there is a need for the party to have strong leaders who will enforce strict guidelines, maintain party discipline, and ensure victory in 2028.
“That injured horse represents the party’s polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional, and national structures. So if we are not able to get national party executives who are capable and able to manage the affairs of the party from the polling stations through the regions and nationally, so that we can work hard and engage our grassroots and recover those who are aggrieved, the one who wins the presidential primary will be riding an injured horse and will not be able to win the race. That is my belief.”
He asserted that the collective interest of the NPP is his priority.
“Collective interest is what I am pushing for. Unity in the NPP is non-negotiable, and as a people, we have to push for party unity. My major interest in our internal party elections is the national elections. We need strong party leaders who will be able to mobilize the party and ensure that we secure victory in 2028,” he said in an interview with Sir Richie, host of ‘As it is in Ghana’ on Rainbow Radio 92.4FM in the UK.
