The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TransAid and Scania to establish a training program for specific categories of driver’s licenses.
This was announced by the Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, in a brief statement on his official Facebook page.
According to him, the MoU, which follows months of engagement, aims to establish a curriculum for the training and certification of individuals seeking Category D and Category E licenses.
Under this new arrangement, all applicants for these licenses will be required to undergo a mandatory training and certification process.
He explained that this is to ensure they are qualified to operate long and heavy-duty vehicles safely and efficiently.
The CEO emphasised that the DVLA’s objective is to provide drivers with the requisite knowledge and skills to safely operate these vehicles, ultimately reducing road fatalities involving large and heavy-duty vehicles.
