The Medical and Dental Council of Ghana has raised concerns about Radford University’s physician assistant programme, citing inadequate setup and insufficient training facilities.
According to Dr Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, the programme’s accreditation status has been called into question.
However, it’s essential to note that Radford University itself is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
The confusion seems to stem from the specific accreditation status of the physician assistant programme, which is currently not admitting new students due to concerns about its quality.
The Medical and Dental Council emphasises the importance of accreditation in ensuring the quality of medical training programmes. The council plans to publish a list of accredited institutions running physician assistant programmes to help prospective students make informed decisions.
He said the Medical and Dental Council is working to ensure that medical training programmes meet the required standards to produce competent healthcare professionals.
