The party organized the polls to elect a candidate to represent it in the Tamale Central by-election.
.
Dr. Murtala Mohammed, who held the seat, died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, alongside seven others.

Following the death of the MP, the Electoral Commission (EC) set September 30, 2025, as the date for the by-election.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has, however, withdrawn from the contest out of respect for the departed MP.

It remains unclear whether other parties or independent candidates will file to contest.

With the NDC having elected its candidate, the party will now be campaigning to convince constituents to retain the seat.
