Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie, the current Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency, has acknowledged the significant impact of his predecessor, Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

The lawmaker stated that taking over from someone who made such a mark requires him to redouble his efforts to build upon the foundation laid by the former MP.

Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he admitted that stepping into such a role is a great challenge, but he remains determined to do his best.

“I understand the shoes I am occupying are big,” he said. “The former MP did a great job for the constituency. I, too, want to improve the constituency’s image, add my own touch, and make Odododiodio more welcoming, more development-oriented, and ensure we change the perception of the area.”

He told host Kwabena Agyapong that Nii Lante Vanderpuye invested in several projects, including a maternity ward, and initiated a medical theatre project, which he intends to complete. He assured constituents that he would roll out initiatives to create job opportunities, invest in infrastructural projects, and implement other plans to make the constituency more business-friendly.

“I am doing everything possible to safeguard the development of the youth,” Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie stated. “I will lead initiatives that will create jobs. We need to address that challenge, as it will also help in minimizing drug abuse and other problems confronting the area.”

He concluded, “I acknowledge there are challenges, but I am prepared to roll out initiatives that will help deal with them. Since I took over, I have lobbied for scholarships for 60 students through GETFund and others using my personal resources.”
