Kwesi Botchwey Junior, a private legal practitioner and an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has strongly asserted that the appointment of Raymond Archer as the Acting Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) compromises the principles of fairness and diligence.
The politician and member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) contends that Mr. Archer, an award-winning investigative journalist, is potentially leveraging his office to pursue personal vendettas.
Speaking on the program ‘Frontline’ on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm, Mr. Botchwey Junior alleged that Mr. Archer has abandoned professionalism and ethical conduct, and is using the authority of his office to target individuals with whom he has underlying personal disagreements.
Furthermore, Kwesi Botchwey Junior maintained that the Operational Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, established by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), is designed primarily to intimidate and harass members of the previous administration and the NPP.
He argued that no alleged corruption case surpasses the magnitude of the Saglemi Housing project, which involves certain NDC officials, as well as other corruption allegations where the Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, has since cleared the accused persons. Based on this, he views ORAL as a political persecution instrument aimed at unfairly targeting NPP members.
“The entire ORAL scheme and its implementation by the NDC are creating a narrative that NPP officials are looters or thieves who must be arrested. That is my fundamental challenge with ORAL, and individuals like Raymond Archer are, in my view, utilising EOCO to settle personal scores with people they believe they have long-standing issues with,” Mr. Botchwey Junior stated.
“The fact that the NDC is using ORAL to brand NPP members as thieves before formally arraigning them in a court of competent jurisdiction is deeply problematic. We recall when Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa alleged that the National Cathedral project was used to loot state funds, yet after nine months in government, no one has been formally charged in court. Similarly, consider the allegations against Prophet Kusi Boateng—nine months later, has he been arraigned?” he concluded.
