Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has signed a ¥3 billion (Japanese Yen) grant agreement with JICA for the improvement of the Inner Ring Road in Kumasi.
The minister said in a statement on Facebook that the Inner Ring Road is a critical artery, linking the N6 and N8 within Kumasi and forming part of the Takoradi/Tema Ports–Ouagadougou Corridor.
However, rapid growth in traffic has turned sections of this road into bottlenecks, with congestion, delays, and safety risks for road users.

He assured that the newly signed contract will address these challenges.
Specifically, the project will widen 3.2 km of road between the Santasi and Ahodwo Roundabouts, upgrade intersections with modern traffic signals, improve pedestrian facilities and drainage systems, and enhance connectivity between the Santasi Roundabout and the N8.

He was optimistic after the project. The traffic situation will improve.
He expressed gratitude to JICA for the support offered to Ghana.
“The transformation will be remarkable: travel speeds will more than triple, journey times will be cut drastically, and both passenger and freight movement will become far more efficient.

We are deeply grateful to JICA for this generous support and continued partnership with Ghana.”
Meanwhile, the minister has added that there are other projects that would be implemented aside from the ones outlined.

These other projects include work on the same interchange and local roads, the Sunyani Road (Phase 2), the Konongo Bypass, and the forthcoming 45 km Kumasi Outer Ring Road.
