Elect Bryan Acheampong, Not ‘Liability’ candidates Bawumia or Agyapong – Akonoba

Akonoba

Isaac Asare, known as Akonoba, a Zonal Campaign Coordinator for aspiring presidential candidate Bryan Acheampong, has advised delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from voting for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia or former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, arguing that either candidate would represent a “liability” for the party.

He asserted that neither of the two aspiring candidates is the ideal choice for the party ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Asare claimed that the supporters and assigns of Dr. Bawumia have purportedly plotted to actively campaign against Mr. Kennedy Agyapong should he be elected as the NPP’s flagbearer.

He alleged that Dr. Bawumia’s supporters believe certain commentaries made by Mr. Agyapong were used against them in the 2024 elections, contributing to their defeat. Consequently, they are allegedly prepared to employ similar tactics against Mr. Agyapong if he becomes the candidate.

Akonoba warned that electing either aspirant would be detrimental to the NPP’s prospects, claiming that both are seeking the flagbearership primarily to “settle personal scores.”

He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the NPP requires a candidate whose central focus is securing victory for the party in the 2028 general elections.

He stressed the necessity for the NPP to adopt a strategic approach by electing Bryan Acheampong as its candidate.

“Not every candidate can secure an election victory for you. We must choose those who are winnable. Electing Bryan Acheampong as our candidate is a strategic move. For the NPP to secure victory in 2028, it must elect Dr. Bryan Acheampong,” he stated.

“When you listen to the camp of Dr. Bawumia, they repeatedly state that Kennedy Agyapong and his supporters were part of the reasons we lost due to certain commentaries he [Kennedy] made. The supporters of Kennedy are still active and intensifying their campaign against Bawumia. If Dr. Bawumia himself has acknowledged this, then it is clear that we must not elect either of them, as Bawumia’s supporters have threatened to replicate Kennedy’s actions against Bawumia should he be elected,” Akonoba argued.

He concluded, “Therefore, the best strategy is to bypass these two camps and settle on Bryan Acheampong’s camp. I view the election of Bryan as the NPP’s saviour. He is a bold leader, and we must be strategic enough to select him so we can win the 2028 elections.”
