The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has lamented that the growing tensions between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs) are undermining development efforts in the region.
He asserted that the strained relations between the two sets of local leaders have slowed the execution of key projects and disrupted coordination at the district level.
The Minister made the remarks in an interview with journalists on Monday, October 6, 2025.
He referred to the growing tension as unhealthy. He has therefore appealed to the MPs and the MMDCEs to work together to ensure the smooth implementation of government initiatives across the Ashanti Region.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he said.
“In some of the districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he added.
